After being violently abducted off the streets, Sara Martinez is taken to a remote location, only to realize that her kidnapper is no stranger.
Results: SD is a 29 years old married female who at the age of 16 was kidnapped and subsequently raped over a 3 day period. Her score on the Davidson Trauma scale just before really engaging into the cathartic realism process was very significant and suggested severe pathology in regards to her PTSD 124 whereas a score above 40 is considered usually clinically significant and would usually warrant a diagnosis of PTSD.
It has been a few years now but her current score is 53 though considered still clinically relevant it suggests and SD confirms dramatic relief from the PTSD symptoms and though we don’t have a placebo to be more certain that it was the process of the cathartic realism that was the reason for such a huge reduction in her symptoms.
The temporal relationship and the amount of reduction in her burden of PTSD symptoms would all indicate the Cathartic Realism was a main factor in providing that relief in PTSD in addition to a significant reduction in her depression as noted by a PHQ 9 score before of 19 to a score of 8 after the making the film.

“The filmmaker [Claire Chubbuck] cleverly weaves the scenes together….The film is also brilliant in its attempt at characterization. Sara’s character gets developed with every single scene. […] She is well-aware that by dealing with women’s problems, one can find various important, influential, and vital subjects to be brought to the surface, where one can talk about such problems and try to fix them.” – FULLSHOT by Ramtin Ebrahimi
